What's wrong with Disney?

This article on Disney's future business plans summarizes quite neatly what's wrong with the current "entertainment" business. The focus is on producing blockbusters (a hit and miss proposition at best), and producing films that can be tied in to other product lines under the Disney banner (toys, cartoons, CDs, etc.). Fine. If they're into making money, they're into making money. But I wonder how successful one can really be by focussing the business narrowly on the possibility of a blockbuster which can drive related sales? Wouldn't it make more sense to focus on producing good stuff, and then tying that in to things? At the very least, genuinely good stuff would tend to be driven by word-of-mouth more than the same tired summer blockbuster trash.
