Thoughtful politicians.

This could be cause for hope or for melancholy. Either the era of the soundbite-driven politico is dying (witness Bush's crashing and burning approval ratings, and our own PM Stevie's anemic support) and the era of the smart policy wonk is returning; or we're all going to die before that happens.

[Note on the polling data: it's odd to see that Stevie has actually eclipsed Jack Layton -- barely -- as the party leader with the highest approval rating, and yet the NDP are gaining ground (slightly) at the expense of the Libs and the BQ, while the Cons are basically stalled. It seems that the voting public buys Stevie's makeover as boring centrist, but not his party of genuine whackos.]
